The Three Magic Words That Invigorate Me

A quick way to boost your energy during the day is to tune into the phrases you're using that drain your motivation and replace them with words that are playful to you.

“I Should…” This phrase will pretty much guarantee that I will NOT do a thing well, if I do it at all. Even if it was a task I was interested in, as soon as I say “I should” all the curiosity and fun is sucked out of it, and it becomes a boring chore.

(Variations of 'I should' can include: “I ought to”, “I need to”, and “I have to.”)

For example: “I should write that proposal.” or “I have to go to the gym.”

These statements feel gross to me because they imply I've got no say in the matter, so my inner 13 year old comes out and I go all dramatic and resentful. I flop. I roll my eyes. I grumble. I procrastinate. I get snarky.

If I do the task, it's a ‘meh’ job that took WAY more time than it required and I burned up a ton of energy bitching about how put-upon I am.

OR

I don’t do the task at all, but I'm exhausted from all the effort I'm putting into avoiding it and telling myself how much I suck, "because I never follow through with what I say I’ll do."

Hmm.

Sound familiar?

The words we use are a big deal.

They can invigorate us or drain our energy.

The three magic words that instantly change my attitude:

✨“I GET TO!”✨

“I get to” changes even the most tedious task into something I can get curious about.

It’s full of choice and opportunity.

Let’s say it’s cold outside and the dog needs to go for a walk:

I get to be feel good about taking care of my dog.

I get to not step in a mess on the floor.

I get to be outside.

I get to move my body.

And I get to savor the warmth of my house when I go back in.

✨“I GET TO” ✨

Words matter, my friend.

Your body is listening.
